BCPS Implementation of Florida HB 192 (2021)
Version Date 2021-07-01
On July 1, 2021, Florida House Bill 149 (2021), aka Florida Senate Bill 192 (2021), became law. Section 2, lines 299 - 461, enables the custodial parent(s) of a student to request an camera system with visual and audio recording capability to be placed in a classroom if:
- the student is identified as a Student with a Disability (SWD) AND
- has an IEP which places that student in a specified classroom for at least 50% of the instructional day AND
- the majority of students are also SWD.
In brief, if a student has an IEP which places them in a "self-contained" classroom then a parent can request the installation of video/audio recording system to be installed. The recording(s) can be requested to be viewed if a qualifying incident is suspected to have occurred. A Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) section is located to the left.
The form to request the placement of a visual/audio system be installed is at browardschools.com/hb149request.
The information on this page is intended to provide guidance to parents on how Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) will implement the law.
